Resided in:
Weirton, West Virginia
Darlene Capito, of Weirton, a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away suddenly on August 2, 2024, from anaphylactic shock following treatment for a kidney stone. She was 68 years old.
Born on January 21, 1956, to Joseph and Margaret A. Cercone Javorsky, Darlene, known affectionately as “Dar,” was kind, gentle, and shy by nature.
A salutatorian graduate of Brooke High School, Darlene went on to earn a degree in Pharmacy from West Virginia University. She had a distinguished career, working at Weirton Medical Center, Ted’s Pharmacy, and the DeCaria Brothers Pharmacies, and served as a diabetic educator at her husband’s medical office.
It was at Weirton Medical Center that she met the love of her life, Dr. John Emil Capito. They married six months later, sharing a deep and abiding love that was evident to all who knew them. Together, they had two sons, Johnny and Joey Capito.
John and Dar did everything as a family. One of the things they enjoyed was traveling, visiting all 48 continental states and the 50 largest cities in the U.S.
Darlene was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. She recently joined the Christian Mothers and was always lighting candles for her family and friends at the church.
She volunteered at Madonna High School and Saint Joseph Grade School and contributed her time to BINGO events. An accomplished artist and wonderful cook, Darlene opened her home and heart to family and friends, often serving as a second mother to her sons’ friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Dr. John Emil Capito.
She will be remembered with love and admiration by her two sons, John Emil Capito II, Dr. Joseph Evan Capito and his wife Meredith; her granddaughter, Violet; and she joyfully anticipated the birth of her second granddaughter, Bridget, due next month. She will also be fondly remembered by her loving and caring Capito family and friends who said it was a privilege to know Dar as she had a profound impact on their lives.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Please meet at the church there will be no visitation at the funeral home prior.
