Dolores Elizabeth Bengier
May 12, 1930 ~ May 1, 2023
Born in:
Youngstown, OH
Resided in:
Weirton, WV
It is with sadness but faith in the Resurrection that the family of Dolores E. Bengier of Weirton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver to many passed away at the Weirton Medical Center on Monday, May 1, 2023. She was 92 years old.
Dolores was born on Mother’s Day 93 years ago in Youngstown, OH., one of two children to John and Elizabeth (Gaytko) Kansa.
She was a graduate of the Weir High School Class of 1947 and she retired from the Conrail Railway Company as a trial stenographer.
Dolores nourished her life-long faith as an active member of Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Christian Mothers, a Eucharistic Minister, and always the “go-to” person when a volunteer was needed.
She never knew a stranger; it was often said that she would talk to a telephone pole if she could get it to listen. Her amazing manner with people drew them closer together. She found great joy in the little things in life, striking up a conversation with new friends, baking pies, taking long car rides to enjoy the scenery, and playing cards with her friends. Her card playing dates to the 1950s, when she was a regular at the Woodland Estates Card Club. She enjoyed a hot cup of coffee from her favorite mug each morning which exclaimed: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all – Proverbs 31:29” You Are an Amazing Woman!
Dolores enjoyed attending “Mat Class” with the Ladies Mat Class of the Paris Presbyterian Church. There, she and other ladies of the community met weekly to crochet mats for our military by recycling plastic bags into mats that could be used as either a floor mat to lay outside their door to prevent sand from entering their tent or they would place them on the floor immediately outside their shower so their feet would not get dirty.
Dolores will be sadly missed by her family and the church family she so deeply adored. She was a woman of profound faith and perseverance; putting forth a lesson from a life that was well lived. In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Stanley Bengier who passed on August 30, 2015.
Surviving Dolores to cherish her memory with much love and admiration are her daughter Denise (Thomas) Jedinak, and her sons Bruce (Ellen) Hoover, John (Pam) Bengier, Joseph (Andrea) Bengier, James (Jane) Bengier, and Jeffrey Bengier, her beloved brother Edward Kansa, her grand-children, great-grandchildren, and cousins.
