Dolores Szymanski, 89, of Weirton, WV, a loving wife, dedicated mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Thursday June 15, 2023.
Born on September 11, 1933, in Weirton, WV, Dolores was a daughter of Henry and Helen (Mieczkowski) Fijewski.
On February 7, 1953, Dolores married her beloved husband, Pete, at Sacred Heart of Mary Church on Avenue F in Weirton. Their marriage was a testament to love, devotion and unwavering commitment.
Dolores pursued her passion for education by studying at West Liberty State College. She later worked at Sacred Heart of Mary School and Broadview School in Hancock County, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of her students.
Dolores was a dedicated volunteer at Weirton Medical Center alongside her husband Pete. Her annual class reunions with the Weir High Class of 1951 were always eagerly anticipated.
Family was the cornerstone of Dolores’ life. She found immense joy in attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, cheering them on with unwavering support. Dolores had a passion for reading cozy mysteries by her favorite authors. Her home reflected her love for decorating for all seasons and holidays. She had a thoughtful and caring nature, often sending heartfelt greeting cards to celebrate special occasions or to offer comfort to those in need.
Dolores was a devout member of her church, Sacred Heart of Mary, where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and a member of the Christian Mothers. She found joy in working in the church kitchen for Lenten dinners and for the parish picnic.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Pete.
She will be remembered with love by her children Donna Jean (Jeff) Turner, Maria Bachmann, and David (Janine) Szymanski; granddaughters Nicole (Mike) Wigen and Taylor Szymanski; and great-grandchildren Emmelou and Russell Wigen; her two brothers, Paul and Tom (Jackie) Fijewski; and her sister, Geraldine Fijewski; as well as nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the Laurels of Steubenville for extended care and services this past year.
Visitation will be held on July 7, 2023, 10 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman catholic Church 200 Preston Avenue Weirton, WV. with entombment to follow in St. Paul Cemetery Mausoleum.

Dear Donna and family, My prayers and thoughts are with you. Your Mom had such an easy laugh and always made me feel welcome and that she was genuinely happy to see me. I know that your memories will comfort you as you celebrate her life and example of giving. My mom always enjoyed their time working on projects together at Sacred Heart. God Bless! 💕

I remember Mrs. Szymanski with fond memories, and she ALWAYS did a LOT for the church.
