
Donald L. Finnegan

Donald L. Finnegan, 74, of Weirton died Sunday March 16, 2003, at the Trinity Health System, Steubenville, OH.
He was born on November 20, 1928, in Wheeling, WV, the son of the late Frank and Marie Gollner Finnegan.
Don retired from the Claims Department of the Weirton Steel Corporation after 38 years of service. He graduated from the College of Steubenville, and he served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, where he was an usher for many years, and a member of the Holy Name. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3734, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Three Score, AARP, and Pleasant Valley Country Club. Don was very active in the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks. He was the Past Exalted Ruler and Trustee and 13 years as secretary of the local BPOE Lodge 1801. He was named West Virginia Elk of the Year in 1995, State President of the WV Elks 1998 – 1999, West Virginia Elks Secretary for 21 years and Trustee. Don was also the Northern District Deputy of the Grand Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Kloss Finnegan, whom he married on February 23, 1957; his son Patrick “Fish” Finnegan; and his daughter Karen Gallagher , and her husband Tim, all of Weirton.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-9 PM Tuesday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited 6 PM Tuesday in the funeral home, followed by BPOE Memorial Services at 7 PM.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon Wednesday, at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Rev. Father Tony Thurston will preside.
Interment will follow in Saint Paul Cemetery, with graveside services conducted by the VFW 2716 Firing Squad, American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, and The Tri State Marine Corp.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Elks National Foundation.

Regina, Pat and Karen, I was very sorry to hear of Don’s passing. I have very fond memories of him from the neighborhood and the Elks. Don was good neighbor, a good friend, and a wonderful Elk.
