Dorpha Gorby

Dorpha Gorby, 80, of Weirton, died Friday, June 04, 2004 at the Weirton Medical Center. Born March 2, 1924 in Hollidays Cove, WV, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Martha Helen (Reebe) Thompson. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Gorby, brothers, Glen, Carl, Robert and Homer Thompson and sister Martha Martin.
Dorpha retired from Weirton Steel where she worked in the Tin Mill Shipping Department, was Presbyterian by faith and was a Veteran of World War II having served in the Navy Air Corps.
Dorpha’s survivors include her daughters Linda Lee Bartrum of Weirton and Eileen Patricia Owensby of Hebron, KY; step-daughter, Sondra Wells of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers, Harley Thompson of Weirton, Richard Thompson of Middlebourne, WV and George Thompson of Hazel Park, MI; sisters, Audrey Cook of Yale, MI, Ramona Wymer and Mary Vincent both of Mesa, AZ; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Sunday 7-9 and Monday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday with Pastor James Rhodes presiding. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Steubenville, Ohio.
