Edith M. "Edie" Rodak
December 13, 1928 ~ May 28, 2021
Edith M. “Edie” Rodak of Weirton, a beautiful and talented wife mother, and grandmother, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021. She was 92.
Edith was born in Berlin, Germany, on December 13, 1928, to Karl and Hedwig Hummel.
During World War II, she met an American Soldier named Edward S. Rodak, and the couple dated while Ed was in Germany. After Ed returned home, Eddie came to America two years later, and they were married on January 24,1948.
Ed worked at C&P Telephone for over 38 years and was a City Councilman and a deputy sheriff. Edie took care of the home, where she cooked delicious ethnic meals that included pierogies, cabbage rolls, and mouth-watering apple strudel. A talented seamstress, she made many of her children’s clothes and designed her daughter’s and grandaughter’s dance costumes. In their 70 years of marriage, Edie and Ed were blessed with three daughters, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandsons.
On January 3, 2019, Ed passed away at the age of 92.
Edie was a member of Saint Mary’s Byzantine Church in Weirton.
Edie will always be remembered for her fun-loving sense of humor. She loved to laugh, and she was the happiest when she was spending time with her family. One of her favorite pastimes was painting pictures and also attending her granddaughter’s dance studio dance recital and competitions. She was well known with all the dancers at Dance by Hillary.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Edie was preceded in death by her sister, Christal Michaels.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Patty (Bill) Filak, Mary Ann (Blaine) McCartney, and Heidi (Hank) Snyder; her grandchildren, Kevin Filak, Jeff (Christel) Filak, Stacy (Alan) Lemley, Bryan Marra, Tina Stickles, Bryanna (Anthony) Marino, Hillary Snyder, and Layne McCartney, great-grandchildren, Shane Cutone, William, Noah, Elle, Jeffy, and Anniston Filak, Alex and Quinn Lemley; and her great-grandsons, Anthony Cutone, Landon Stickles, and Beckham Marino.
Friends and relatives will be received on Tuesday from 2 PM until 7 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday.
Reverend Fr. Vasyl Symyon will officiate.
Edie will be laid to rest by her husband at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 3116 Elm Street Weirton, WV 26062.
