edna leasure
Edna Elizabeth Leasure of Weirton passed away peacefully at her home on Cleveland Road with her loving family by her side under the caring and diligent hands of Hospice of the Valley on Sunday, December 12, 2021. She was 86 years old. She was born in Middlebourne, West Virginia, on May 30, 1935, a daughter of the late Eli and Edna Sellers Bailey. Edna always had a soft spot in her heart for Tyler County, WV.; she would often say that her favorite place on earth was Shirley, WV., a small unincorporated town near Middlebourne. They would make the trip several times a year “down hoopie” to remember and rejoice a more straightforward yet essential part of her youth. Edna knew from a very young age that her family was the focal point of her life. As a result, she developed her selfless demeanor and passionate persona during a time of great uncertainty; even through the struggles of life, she put everyone else’s concerns above hers. As Edna became older and her convictions began to mold her, her actions and love for her family became more apparent to all. Her devotion to her loved ones transcended into her married life, taking care of not only her children but making sure her immediate and extended family had everything they needed; she was a mother to all. Her family did not have to worry about dinner, it was always prepared, and of course, her food was the best; none other could compare. In addition to her caring ways and her memorable meals, everyone in her family knew of her green thumb. Her flowers were an extension of her. Her son Roy Jr. remembers being yelled at for running through her flower bed and constantly being reminded to keep at least three feet distant while cutting the grass. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Leasure, whom she married on April 10, 1953, and who passed away on March 22, 2008, brothers Walter and Bud Bailey, sisters Nellie Spencer and Stella Bailey. Remembering Edna with love and great admiration is her daughter, Janice Summers of Weirton, son Roy (Cynthia) Leasure, Jr., grandchildren, Deanna Munson Gross, Shawn Pratt, Amy Mellott, Stacey Rodriguez, Robbie Summers, and Christie McAbee, great-grandchildren, Emma Munson, Bennett Gross, Courtney O’Connor, Baylee McLaughlin, Nina Rodriguez-Lazear, Liam Summers, Destinee Thompson, Desarea Thompson, Skye and Dayson Beagle, great-great-grandchildren, Trenton Brown and Cardell Smith, and great-great-great-grandson, Brantley Fox. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Greaco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am. Captain Gene Hunt of the Weirton Salvation Army will officiate. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Share tributes at www.grecohertnick.com
