Edward F. Dofka

Edward F. Dofka, 78, of Gallatin, TN, formerly of Weirton, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014 in the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. Born June 15, 1935 in Weirton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rose M. Dulemba Dofka. He was also preceded in death by his brother Richard J. Dofka, Sr.
After his Weir High School graduation Edward graduated with a BS in Math and Secondary Education from the former West Liberty State College and attended Marshall University and WVU for graduate classes. Mr. Dofka retired from the Hancock County Board of Education where he taught math at Weir High School. He also served as Manager for the Hancock School Employee Federal Credit Union and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the College Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin and a former member of the Family of God Christian Center in Weirton. Ed was an avid golfer, having won golf championships at Williams Country Club, Woodview Golf Club and the former Pleasant Valley Country Club. He loved working in his rose garden and participated yearly in the Relay for Life walk in celebration of his cancer survivorship.
Edward is survived by his wife of 56 years Barbara Barrett Dofka of Gallatin; son Gregory B. Dofka of New Cumberland, WV; daughter Dr. Dianna L. Shipley and her husband David of Gallatin; sisters Patricia "Patty" Zielinsky and her husband Thomas of Weirton and Rose Ann Keller and her husband Bill of Denver, CO; his loving grandchildren Gregory Dofka, Emily Shipley and Jonathan Shipley and his dog, Precious.
Visitation will be held Saturday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held Sunday from 1pm until the Celebration of Life service at 2pm at Family of God Christian Center with Pastor Craig Greathouse officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV.
Memorial contributions may be made to Family of God Christian Center, The Gallatin Relay for Life, Gideons International or College Heights Baptist Church.

Ed was the kind of man that made it such a delight to be in his presence. He was kind, gentle, humorous, and thoughtful. He was a friend and neighbor who will be greatly missed, but heaven will be a bit brighter because of his presence!

I also served on the board of the credit union for many years and appreciated his outstanding service. Used to love watching him hit a golf ball and wished I could hit just one like him. Barb and family, we are so sorry to hear about Ed. You were wonderful neighbors on ole’ Riverview. We had many great times together, and so enjoyed Ed’s funny stories.
