Edward Gonzales, 82, of Weirton, WV, passed away Saturday, December 05, 2009 at his home. Born July 17, 1927 in Ford City, PA, he was the son of the late Amado and Gumicienda Ruiz Gonzales. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Jess, Charles, Danny, Henry, Joe, Isabelle, Lucy, and Toni and one infant daughter. Edward served in the United States Army from 1945-1947. With 43 years of service, Edward retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a pipe fitter. He was a member of St. Paul Church, a faithful member of Weirton Senior Center, Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, Independent Steel Workers Union, Pipe Fitter's Breakfast Club. He was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams included Notre Dame, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He loved to shoot pool, play euchre and drink his coffee. Edward's survivors include his wife, Susan Elliott Gonzales, whom he married on January 21, 1951; his sons; Edward Elliott Gonzales (Debbie) of Danville, OH, John Ryan Gonzales (Sue) of Huntersville, NC, Charles Patrick Gonzales of Twinsburg, OH, and James Theodore Gonzales (Anita) of Fairmont, WV; his daughters; Cynthia Sue Morris of Fairmont, WV, Mary Margaret "Baby Doll" Hill (Jon) of Fairmont, WV, Sara Evon Gonzales (David Locke) of Point Marion, PA, and Bonita Jane Boyd (Bill) of Minerva, OH; his sixteen grandchildren; Shelby, Joey, Austin, Aaron, Erika, Haley, Ethan, Gabriella, Gracie and Georgia Gonzales, Pamela Sue and Lea Morris, Michael Sturm, Toni Shriver (Wes), Victoria and Joshua Boyd; three great grandchildren; Lydia Marie Morris, Brooke and Kelsey Shriver; sister Margaret Ashbee of Weirton; numerous nieces and nephews; his special neighbors George and Karen Lengyel and his beloved dog "Sandy". The family will receive friends Monday 4-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-9PM at Masters Funeral Home, 209 East Main Street, Mannington, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 11AM Wednesday at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 204 Furbee Avenue, Mannington, WV. Interment will be in Mannington Cemetery. Edward's nephews, Denny Efaw, Charles Ashbee, John Elliott, Rusty Elliott, Mark Morris and Nelson Elliott will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Weirton Senior Citizen Center, 3425 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062.   17. Dear Aunt Sue and Family, I remember Uncle Ed as someone who was as tough as leather, but always hugged me, kissed me and told me he loved me. He loved his Notre Dame and Steeler football and his dog, Sandy. He worked hard his entire life to provide for his family—nothing was more important to him and I admired him for that. I know how hard this must be for you all and am so sorry for your loss. You and Uncle Ed are in my prayers.
