Eleanor Olenick of Weirton passed away peacefully at the Weirton Geriatric Center on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. She was one hundred years old.

Eleanor was born on March 5, 1922, in East Vandergrift, PA., one of six children born to Stanley and Bessie Kolakowski Adamczyk.

She graduated from Weir High School in 1940 and on October 25, 1942, she married John “Big John” Olenick. John owned and operated Weir Cove Plate Glass and Eleanor worked as a tin flopper and timekeeper at Weirton Steel before working at Denmark’s in Steubenville for 30 plus years. They were blessed with two children J. David and Patti. Sadly, J. David was killed in action on May 23, 1969 while serving his country on a combat operation in South Vietnam.

Eleanor loved working at Denmark’s where she met a lot of friends. She enjoyed going on trips to Vegas and Atlantic City. She also cherished the times she went to her monthly dinners with her friends from Denmark’s.

Eleanor nourished her faith at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Weirton.

In addition to her parents, and her son, Sgt. E 5 John “David” Olenick, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband John Olenick who passed on March 28, 2006; her two brothers and three sisters.

She will be remembered with love by her daughter, Patti (Gene) Visco and granddaughter Ashley Visco (Aaron Boyd) all of Colliers.
