Ella Mae Baker (74 years old, hometown of New Cumberland, WV) was born on April 9, 1949. She graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1967. She retired from Weirton Steel after 30 years and was a proud member of the 25-year club. She was called home to heaven on February 2, 2024, while at her sister Valerie Seevers’ home in Virginia Beach, VA, where she had been residing for the past 7 years.
If you knew nothing else about Ellie Baker, you knew she was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy (America’s Team) fan. Even when their performance was subpar, she still cheered them on week after week. Ellie’s favorite place on Earth was the beach. She would bask in the sun every day if she could. If she wasn’t there, you would find her at Ocean Breeze floating in the lazy river.
She tried to model Jesus by feeding 5,000 when preparing for her family and friends. When cooking for an Army, her favorites included turkey burgers with gravy, noodles, and corn bake. You can never leave the house without taking leftovers or shopping the pantry for anything you needed.
When living in West Virginia, she kept her lawn and landscape immaculate while decorating for every holiday. During the summer, you could find her floating on a raft in her pool or enjoying the company of her friends at the “chicken blast” in Weirton.
Ellie loved attending church, and serving the Lord, and others. She was the best caregiver of her grandma Fetty and her parents. She could channel Martha Stewart while being Florence Nightingale, keeping everyone including visitors fed and cared for. At Ellie’s home, there was always a fresh pot of coffee brewing and some sort of dessert on the table. If you left hungry, that was your own fault.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, Rev. Arnett, and Lola Baker. She is survived by her sisters Valerie Seevers, Robin Hughes, and Joyce Larson (Byron), and her brothers Milo Baker, Ronald Baker (Patty), and Ray Baker (Gloria). Ellie was a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Ellie wanted to express her appreciation for her friends who helped Valerie with her care over the last several months. Every card, phone call, and text meant the world to her.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Weirton First Church of the Nazarene 475 Colliers Way in Weirton, WV. where a celebration of Ellie’s life will take place on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11 am at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family will humbly accept donations to Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. 26062, for service expenses.
The interment will be in New Cumberland Cemetery.
I am thankful I was able to visit with Ellie recently. When I think of her I see her with a glowing tan and a beautiful smile. I know how much she loved Val and Stephie and how much they loved her. Ellie will be missed by so many. She was a truly special person.
