Elmer Leroy "Bud" Cunningham, 94, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the Weirton Geriatric Center. He was born September 7, 1921 in Burgettstown, PA, a son of the late Elmer N. and Erma Wilson Cunningham. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ethel Clemens Cunningham, brothers Tom, Ron, Donald, Charles, Dale and Edwin Cunningham, sisters Shirley Piermarini, Doris Lee Matchett and Hazel Garcia and great-grandson Zachary Jon Zatezalo. For 37 years, Mr. Cunningham worked in the Weirton Steel Strip Steel, serving as motor inspector/electrician. He was a member of the Evangel Baptist Church. Bud was an avid bowler who bowled in various leagues. He held the City Singles Championship. He was a member of the WSX 25 Year Club, loved country music and animals. When his son was growing up, he served as an assistant coach in the termite league. You could always find Bud working in his basement on various projects. He loved gardening, canning and cooking with his late wife, Ethel. Bud is survived by his son Ralph "Wolf" Cunningham of Weirton; daughter Gloria Zatezalo of Waynesburg, PA; sisters Jean Gilles of Follansbee, WV and Ila Murray of Chester, WV; brothers Danny Cunningham of Hookstown, PA and Bill Cunningham of Paris, PA; grandchildren Jon and Eli Zatezalo; great grandchildren Lindsie, Chelsea, Misha, Tehya, John Blake, Ethan, Ayana and Sabella and great-great granddaughter Mila. Visitation will be held Sunday 1-3 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated 1PM Monday. The Reverend Charles McCollum will officiate. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton. Bud's family would like to express their deep appreciation to Weirton Geriatric Center and Valley Hospice for the loving care extended to their father.

  3. To Gloria ,Ralph and family ,sending my deepest condolence to all of you. Your Dad ,was one of a kind. I know Bud & my Dad ( Al Lemasters) would get together & talk about this & that. Bud & my Dad,went hunting a few times & Bud even went to New Martinsville a few times to go hunting,with my Dad. Just incase you don’t remember me I’m the oldest daughter Linda,there is Debby(which lived with my Dad parents), Terry & Donnie we lived in the.. white house across from Bud & Ethel.
