Eugene G. Smarrella, 82, of Weirton, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2006, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1924, in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of the late Eustachio and Theresa Marino Smarrella. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Tunno Smarrella; brothers, Anthony, Nicholas, John, and Joseph Smarrella; his sister, Mary Dillon. Eugene retired from National Steel, where he was head of the Production and Planning Department. Eugene served his country during WWII, in the US Navy. He was a member of St Paul Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 3734, BPOE #1801, Loyal Order of the Moose 688, VFW 2716, and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. He is survived by his wife Gloria Lonetta Smarrella of Weirton; two sons, Eugene R Smarrella and Thomas and Cindy Smarrella all of Weirton; three step sons, Daniel, Thomas and James Simmons; step daughter, Rebecca Foster; brother, Steve Smarrella of Mingo, OH; 25 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday, at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Tuesday, at St Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton, WV. Entombment will follow at St Paul Cemetery Mausoleum.
