August 10, 1930 ~ July 1, 2016
Eugene Joseph Strauss, 85, of Weirton passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, surrounded by his family, at the Weirton Geriatric Center.
Born August 10, 1930 in Steubenville, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Ellis) Strauss. He was also preceded in death by his brother Rudolph "Rudy" Strauss.
Eugene worked as a union bricklayer for Local 11. He built many schools and churches in town. He proudly served his country in the marines where he was an expert sharp shooter and instructor as well as being a guard to the atomic bomb state side.
Eugene was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic church. He loved spending time in the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing and camping. He always brought so much laughter to people everywhere he went. He was known around Weirton Geriatric Center for being ornery and escaping just to give the staff a laugh. The center now has two fences and a security system erected in his honor.
He is survived by his beloved wife Delores (Gruda) Strauss, his two daughters, Valerie (Ivey) Cook of Charlotte, NC and Michelle Bartlett of Oak Hill, WV, and grandchildren, Justin, Christopher, Chelsea Cook, and Hannah Bartlett.
