Eugenia G. Makricostas
February 28, 1935 ~ July 30, 2011
Eugenia G. Makricostas, 76, of Weirton, WV, passed away Saturday July 30, 2011, at the Weirton Medical Center, in the presence of her family.
She was born February 28, 1935, in Kardamyla Chios, Greece, a daughter of the late Costantinos and Despina Madias. She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Makricostas; a brother, Paraschos Madias; brother in law, Nick Difonis, and a nephew, George Difonis.
She came to the United States in 1957 when she married her late Husband George J. Makricostas.
Eugenia was a homemaker until her final breath, and cherished her family and friends. She always stressed values to her children and grandchildren, and would always ensure that her family followed the Greek Orthodox Faith, and the importance of obtaining an education. She celebrated life through her sons, James and Dean, but mostly through her grandchildren, Eugenia Anna, George, and Kalliopi. She was so loving and proud of her family, heritage, and faith. One of her proudest moments was when she watched her first born grandchild Eugenia graduate from Weir High and go to college. Her grandchildren George and Kalliopi would always address her as "Mana: and her favorite saying was "Opu Georgis Ke Malama."
She was a member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox, Weirton, WV and the Stavros Orthodox Church in Kardamyla, Chios, Greece; a longstanding President of the Kardamylian Society, and a member of the Philoptochos Society.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, James (Pelagia) and Dean (Eugenia) Makricostas; grandchildren, Eugenia, Anna, George, and Kalliopi; sister, Maria Difonis; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3528 West Street, Weirton, WV. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral services at the church.
The Reverend Father Frank A. Milanese will preside.
