Florence N. Whittington

Florence N. Whittington,78, of Weirton died Thursday, July 18,2002, at her home.
She was born on November 6, 1923, in Elizabeth, WV, the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Valentine Bell. Florence was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Whittington, on June 18, 1977; her brother, Charles Bell, and her sisters, Hilda Lavendar and Nellie Mae Keenan.
Florence retired as a nurses aid from the Weirton General Hospital and from private home care. She worked in the tin mill of Weirton Steel as a tin sorter, during World War II. She was very active in the Weirton Salvation Army, where she was the oldest living member. She was an officer in the Salvation Army as well as a bandsman, songster, and member of the Home League. Florence was a past matron of the Weirton Chapter 147 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Follansbee High School Class of 1942.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. (Dave) Flora Reitter, Patricia Ann Oiler, Mary E. Whittington all of Weirton, WV, and Carol S. Riter of Marion, NC; her brothers, Robert Bell of Lisbon, OH, and Ralph Bell of Weirton, WV; five grandchildren, Nicola Ann Hood, Larry James Oiler, Michael Reitter, Mindy Reitter, and Lisa M. Riter; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 7-9 PM Saturday and 1-3 and 7-9 PM Sunday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
Additional visitation will be held Monday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM at the Weirton Salvation Army. Major Lamar Foreman will preside.
Entombment will be in the Highland Hills Memorial Garden Mausoleum.
