Frances Ann Mascaro of Bridgeport, WV, formerly of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Galloway, WV, on August 27, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Mary Lopez Lechiaria and Frank Lechiaria.
Fran sadly was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Mascaro, in 1979.
As a widow, she demonstrated unwavering strength and resilience, raising four children while passionately pursuing a career in education. After her husband’s passing, she went on to earn her master’s degree from West Virginia University. A graduate of Fairmont State, Fran began her teaching journey in the parochial system at Saint Paul’s in the early 60’s and devoted over 40 years to her students, whom she cherished deeply.
After more than 30 years of dedicated service with the Steubenville City School District, Fran retired but continued to pursue her passion for teaching. She moved closer to her family in West Virginia and found joy in educating her grandchildren, a special highlight of her later years.
Fran’s life was one of service—service to her family, her students, and her community. Though her departure brings sorrow, her legacy of love, knowledge, and kindness continues to inspire all who knew her. She dedicated her heart and soul to her vocation as a teacher and principally to the students that she taught for over forty years.
Fran will be remembered with love and admiration by her children: Mary Beth Mascaro Corwin (late Bo Corwin), Marcia Blount (Anthony Blount), Patrick Mascaro (Tina Mascaro), and Michelle Mascaro Efaw (Michael Efaw); her grandchildren: Luke, Gianna, and Maresa Hrapchak; James, Alexandria (Jaworski), and Gabriella Mascaro; Tavia and Presley Blount; and her three great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to her visitation from 4-6 PM on Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
While Fran’s departure brings sadness, the love, memories and lessons that she left behind continues to enrich the world.

Dear Beth, Marcy, Missey, Patrick and families,
I am saddened to read this about dear Fran. I missed a call from her at the end of August… around her birthday.
I am in LA with my grandson and won’t be able to pay my respects to a great friend and best first grade teacher who was great fun!!
I hope to get in touch with you when I return home. I am still shocked and so upset about this news.
May she rest in peace. She loved her kids , grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We would talk a few times a year to catch up on everyone. My heart is broken like yours are. Xo

Dear Mascaro family,
Deepest sympathy to all of you. Such great memories of your mom during my high school days and her involvement with the Weir High Band parents. She worked tirelessly on all projects. May the happy memories of her bring you peace and comfort at this difficult time. God be with all of you.

To my best friend from WAY back, Michelle, (Missy, Mikassa), and the entire Mascaro family, you have my heartfelt condolences. She was definitely one of the best. A spitfire on the block, back in the old hood. A great mom, to all the neighborhood kids, as well. God certainly blessed her with a lot of patience… she needed it, raising the four of you! JK! I am chuckling though, as I recall some pretty good stories. Loved her and all of you! I’’m sorry I’m unable to be there to celebrate her life with you. May she rest in peace and you all have peace in your hearts knowing she has lived a good life, and is with the Lord. 🙏🏻♥️✌🏻
Sending my sympathy to Fran’s family.
I have many happy memories of working with Fran at Garfield School. Her students were very lucky; and, as teachers, we worked well together … and had fun!
So sorry to hear of Fran’s passing. We spent many hours together and she helped me tremendously during my first year of teaching. We took classes together while working on our master’s degrees and spent hours together on outings. I hope your memories bring you comfort. I’m sorry I missed the services. My prayers are for all of you.
