Frances Smalley, 84, of Weirton passed away on Wednesday December 21, 2022.

She was born on August 22, 1938, in Steubenville, OH, one of four daughters born to William A. and Julia Szymanek Sobieraj.

On May 4, 1957, she married Junior H. Smalley. Junior worked in Weirton Steel for over thirty years and Frances took care of their home. In their 56 years of marriage, they were blessed with four children, eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Frances enjoyed bowling in the leagues at Steel Valley Lanes and watching game shows on TV. She was also known as a talented baker and cook.
She nourished her faith at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Junior, her daughter, Judy Jones, her granddaughter, Sarah Smalley, and her sisters, Theresa Dorich and Catherine Brown.

She is survived by her two sons, Dale (Natalie) and Hobie (Mariella) Smalley; her daughter, Susan (Richard) Thomas; her sisters Bernice Bradley and Mary Rice; her grandchildren, Angie (Lee) Dobson, Jordan (Bobby) Fleming, Casey (Michael) Tumminello, Jessie (Travis) Robinson, Brian Chris, and Adam (Justina) Utt.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM on Tuesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church 200 Preston Avenue Weirton.

Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton.
