Francis W. “Bill” Flynn, Jr., 84, of Wellsburg, WV, died Friday, February 13, 2004 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born September 8, 1919 in Washington, PA, a son of the late Francis W. Flynn, Sr. and Martha A. Amon Flynn. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Frances Ocheltree Flynn; one stepson, Tim Ice; and four sisters, Martha Davis, Barbara Ann Rogers, Patricia Ross, and Emily Marvin. Bill retired with 47 ½ years of service from the G.C. Murphy Co. where he worked as a manager. He served his country in the the US Army Infantry during World War II. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellsburg; lifetime member of Weirton V.F.W. #2716; member of the Wellsburg American Legion Post #34; member Weston, WV Loyal Order of the Moose; volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh; past president of the Weirton Chamber of Commerce; past executive director, and past president of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce; past executive director of the Lewis County Industrial and Economic Development; volunteer Brooke County Senior Association; selected Outstanding West Virginian in 1982. Bill is survived by his wife, Delores Moore Flynn of Wellsburg; three daughters, Karen Sue Oyster of Chester, WV, Martha Ann Efan of Weirton, and Barbara Jean Koon of Masontown, PA; three step daughters, Jennifer Monroe of Wellsburg, Vicky Simons of Washington, PA, and Kathy Young of Wellsburg; 2 brothers, Tom Flynn of Clarksburg, WV, and Harry Gordon Flynn of Charleston, WV; 2 sisters, Joann Miller of Ravenswood, WV, and Nancy Carr of Orange City, FL; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 7-9 PM Saturday and 1-3 and 7-9 PM Sunday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday. Rev. Phillip Richards will preside. Burial will be at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV with military services performed by the Evert Maki American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard, V.F.W. #2716 Firing Squad, and the Tri-State Marine Corps.
