Frank Anthony Merico, Sr., 89, of Weirton, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 in Serra House Grace Cottage, Weirton. He was born December 13, 1930 in Shinnston, WV, the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine Loria Merico. He was also preceded in death by his wife Helen Jean Bish Merico in 1997; son Michael Merico and great-granddaughter Giada Merico. With 42 years of service, Frank retired from Weirton Steel where he was superintendent of General Labor. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the WSX 25-Year Club, Knights of Columbus 3734 and was an avid fisherman, loving to fish in Ocean City and Florida. Frank is survived by his sons Nicholas Merico of Westover, WV, Frank (Bev) Merico, Jr. and David (Theresa) Merico; daughter Mary K. (Gus) Angelo all of Weirton; sister Betty Loretta of Clarksburg, WV and his second wife, Patricia Joseph Merico of Shinnston, WV. Known as Pap, he is also survived by grandchildren Carly Angelo, Mandy Merico, Jonathan (Emily) Angelo, Alisha (David) Binkoski, Michael (Shae) Merico, Kathryn Merico, Gina Merico and Vincent Merico and great-grandchildren Eli, Ari, Michael, Mia, Adeline, Luca and Gino. Friends will be received Saturday from 4-7 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Monday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Anthony G. Thurston will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the US Marine Corps and the American Legion Honor Guards.   4. Many fond memories of Uncle Frank come to mind… We shared SO MUCH picnic time, great summer vacations, lots of fun at the Termite fields. He and the love of his life, Aunt Helen, hosted countless family gatherings. He was a hard worker with excellent gardening skills and did plenty to help others.   6. Have many good memories of Frank. Spent many months with him repairing floors at the river pump house at Weirton Steel. Spent a lot of evenings at his house when his kids were small.
