George Edward Balint, Sr., 78, of Weirton, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at his home. He was born March 17, 1938 in Weirton, a son of the late Michael and Anna (Mizok) Balint. He was also preceded in death by his wife Sharon (Guglielmo) Balint on January 11, 2015, first wife Marlene Joy Komar, brother Michael Balint and sister Maryann Roberts. In 1987, George retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a scarfer. A happy-go-lucky man, he was a troop leader for Boy Scout Troop 64. He was an amazing master carpenter, expert model builder and welder and, for many years, played softball for the Weirton Steel League. He was a Vietnam veteran of the US Air Force. Within the last two years, he restored a 1951 Ford Custom. George is survived by his sons George E. (Heather) Balint, Jr. of Taylors, SC, Bart W. (Melanie) Balint of Weyers Cave, VA and Bruce G. (Shelby) Balint of Harpers Ferry, WV; sister Anna Sue (Ray) Buratynski of Toronto, OH; step-sons Gino and Mark Guglielmo; step-daughter Darla Guglielmo all of Weirton; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and his dog, Adrian. Visitation will be held Friday 4-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where funeral services will be celebrated at 11AM Saturday. Pastor George Delo will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee, WV where military services will be conducted by the United States Air Force and American Legion Honor Guard.   2. Dear Balint and Guglielmo families, Will certainly miss your father and step-father George. Somehow I always felt safer with him living behind me. Will always remember our drive to Weyers Cave, VA when you scouted out doctors there for your winter get-away with Bart and Melonie. Glad you got to spend one winter there. Will miss you but you and Sharon are together again with no more sickness and only joy.

  5. I’m so thankful to have spent quality time with George when his grandson, Chris (my oldest son), and I traveled to Weirton to visit him in July. Bart & Melanie were there, as well.   6. To the entire Balint Family I want to extend my most sincere sympathies for the loss of George. I was one of his Boy Scouts at Troop 64 along with his sons!!! He was a great man, craftsman, Scout Leader, and Band Parent!!! I also knew George from working in WSX. He will be sorely missed by all that loved and knew him!!! I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers!!! God Bless and God Speed!!!
