George M. Lacik
May 9, 1939 ~ February 2, 2022
George M. Lacik of Follansbee WV, a loving father, granfa, great-granfa, and friend to many, passed away suddenly on February 2, 2022, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was 82 years old.
He was born in Weirton on May 9, 1939, the son of the late Michael and Helen Havaj Lacik.
George was employed for more than forty years with the former Weirton Steel Corporation, working in their Accounting Department. A member of the 1957 graduating class of Weir High, George was known for never having a bad word to say about anyone. Although, according to his daughter, Terri, the closest he ever came to saying anything bad was his signature response, “Boz̒e Moj”.
George grew up in Weirton attending faithfully his beloved Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, respectfully known by his fellow parishioners as “Saint George.” His many years cantoring and assisting the priests by chanting the liturgical responses will be forever cherished by his church family. George knew all the aspects of the church, if there was a specific question about anything, they would ask him and within minutes you would have an answer.
In his free time, he loved to tinker with old cars and especially his old BSA Motorcycle. He also loved to golf, travel, and in his younger years he enjoyed racquetball.
His family describes George as a very honorable man, he was proud of his heritage and respectful of the individuals that he met. His caring personality and the way he conducted himself throughout his life are attributes to how this true gentleman lived his life.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his infant ´children, Gabriel and Seraphim Lacik; his daughter, Michele Lemasters; first wife, Beverly Giebell Lacik, his second wife Joyce Ann Smith Lacik, and his sister Anna Ondo.
Remembering George with love are his daughters, Ann Marie (Mike) White of Weirton, Terri (David) Livingston of Taylorsville, NC., and Tracie (Jeff) McKeny of Scott Depot, WV., and son Michael G. Lacik of New Cumberland, grandchildren Carrie, Michael, DJ, Michael Alex, Shane, Kasey, Garrett, Kelly, Abby, and Samantha, great-grandchildren Shalynn, Sydney, Eli, Ian, Luke and Kolson, and sister Helen (John) Sinsel.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
A Parastas service will be held at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Blessing services will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday at the funeral home.
A funeral liturgy will be held Monday 10:00 AM at the Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church 3116 Elm Street, Weirton, WV.
Rev. Fr. Vasyl Symyon and Fr. Robert Jones will preside.
Interment will follow Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
