George Martich, 87, of Weirton, WV, died peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday October 20, 2018. Born in Midland, PA, on December 16, 1930, George was a son of the late Jovan and Sava (Buncic) Martich. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dan Martich, and his sister, Mary Yandrich. George graduated from Midland High School, were he was class president for four years. He served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Following the war, George graduated from the Steubenville Business College. After a 38 year career in banking, Mr. Martich retired as the Vice President of the former Bank of Weirton. He was an active member and past president of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church, Steubenville, OH. In addition George was the former president of the Serb National Federation as well as a local lodge officer for many years. He was a member of the Serbian Men‘s Club, Tsar Lazar Male Choir, and a former 50 year member of the Petar Krstich Choir. He will be remembered with love by his wife of 65 years, Mildred “Mickey” (Wujnovich) Martich; his two sons, John and Juka Martich of Weirton, WV, and Dr. G. Daniel and Lisa Martich of Bradfordwoods, PA; his brother, Milan and Mercia Martich of Northridge, CA; grandchildren, Milan, George (Fiancé Monica), Aleksander, and Stephanie Martich; and many nieces nephews and friends. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton. A pomen service will be held 7:30 PM Monday in the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday 11 AM until the time of funeral services at 12 noon, at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church 528 N.4th St. Steubenville, OH. Entombment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.     Our sincerest condolences for your lose. As a youth growing up in the Petar Krstich Choir, I looked up to George and considered him one of my mentors. I was always impressed with the way he conducted himself. I will remember him as a “class” individual. Your sadness will go away. Your 65 years of pleasant memories will last forever.
