George Messer, Jr., 65, of Weirton passed away on Thursday July 3, 2014, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North. Born on October 22, 1948, in East Liverpool, OH, George was a son of the late George and Martha Davis Messer. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Messer. A United States Air Force Veteran, George retired as a Supervisor in the Boiler House at Weirton Steel, after 32 years of service. In his free time he enjoyed his grandchildren and watching his Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a member of Weirton Heights Church of Christ, and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Cooper Vilga Messer; his son, Christopher and Larae Messer; his daughter, Lara Bailie all of Weirton, WV; his brothers, James and Robin Messer of Weirton, WV and Charles Messer of Waverly, OH; his sisters, Marilyn Walker and Tamara (Sam) Hughes all of Weirton, WV; two grandchildren, Hayden and Laila Bailie. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday. Minister Steve Smithbauer will preside. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton with military services conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard.

  7. I’ve know George for more than 40 years. We used to play tennis behind the community center with a few other guys. Great times a lot of fun. Worked in the Boiler House with him for years. He was a great guy and I will miss him. R.I.P. my friend.
