George R. ''Ump'' Danford
August 14, 1932 ~ July 17, 2003
George R. “Ump” Danford, 70, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2003 at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born August 14, 1932 in Weirton, the son of the late Isaac William and Bessie Pearl McNurlin Danford. His four brothers, Michael Danford, Willie Niles, Fred and Jay Fife and four sisters, Mary and Shirley Danford, Betty Singelis and Marge Haspel also preceded him.
George retired from the Tin Mill of Weirton Steel where he worked as a motor inspector. He was a member of the Salvation Army Chapel and the New Cumberland Lodge # 22 AF & AM.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred M. (Yakunich) Danford of Weirton; son, George R. Danford and his wife Ruthanne of New Manchester, WV; and brother, Isaac Fife of Warren, OH.
Friends will be received Sunday, 1 – 3PM and 7 – 9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where services will be held 11:00AM Monday with Major Lamar Foreman presiding. Interment will follow at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Florence, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Salvation Army Building Fund, P. O. Box 2499, Weirton, WV 26062.
