George Thomas Paar, 86, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his granddaughter's home, where he had been receiving home hospice care. Born June 7, 1928 in Weirton, he was a son of the late George and Catherine Matijask Puskarich. He was also preceded in death by his wife Helen; a son, Gregory Paar, great grandson Elijah Lamp, brothers, John, George, Thomas, Marco and Rudolph Puskarich and sister, Rose Puskarich. He is survived by his sons, Brent Paar of Weirton and David Paar, MD of New Hope, PA; sister, Mary Ann Tassey of Weirton, WV; grandchildren, Jessica and Elisha Paar both of Weirton; great grandsons, Isaiah Stephen Ware, Malaki Llanos of Weirton, and many nieces and nephews. George was an active member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and devoted himself to parish activities. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 3734, where he was in the Fourth Degree Assembly, Saint Paul HolyName, the Cursillo movement (Christ Renews His Parish - C.R.H.P.), the Wheeling Laymen's Retreat League and was an ex-officer in the CCD education program. George served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1951 to 1957. George had many hobbies which he generously shared with others. These included gardening, calligraphy, scrimshaw, photography, and card playing. He is well known for his skill in billiards, and once defeated 15 time World Straight Pool Champion Willie Mosconi. This earned him the nickname of "The Legend". One of his favorite activities in recent years was spending time with friends at the Weirton Senior Center. With 44 years of service, George retired from Weirton Steel where he served as foreman in the Strip Steel Department. He was a member of the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. The Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Honor Guard will stand honor guard. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Weirton where Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Weirton Senior Center.   3. Pap, I am really going to miss you,and your laughing humerous ways of being a loving people person. It seems like only yesterday ew were making plans for our July 35th wedding plans. You will always be in my heart and truluy in ny mind. You could never imagine the joy of knowing you the the 5 years I did know you. My dad always said Let Go, Let God because He know all the answers.. You will be greatly missed but I know there is no more suffering, and no more pain.   4. I had the privilege of knowing George and playing pool with him on many occasions. A really nice guy and always willing to help his fellow man. I haven’t seen him since the early 80’s, but I thought of him often.

  6. He was one of the best pool players I’ve ever seen I played on a pool team for many years with George , he always made pool nights fun he was a very nice man and I learned a lot from him he will b missed!!
