George Vezmar
June 28, 1914 ~ May 23, 2003
George Vezmar, 88, of Weirton, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2003 at the Weirton Geriatric Center in Weirton. He was born June 28, 1914 in Kansas City, Kansas, son of the late Milosh and Smilja Vukovich Vezmar. His wife, Ruth Lazich Vezmar, whom he married in 1937; a brother, Mele Vezmar; and three sisters, Sophie DeCollo, Mildred Prokenpek, and Ann DeCollo also preceded him.
George retired from the Weirton Steel Co. with 41 years of service where he worked as a boiler operator. He was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville, Ohio, the 25-year club, the American Legion Post 10, and served his country in the US Navy during WWII.
He is survived by a daughter Barbara Javersak and her husband Matthew of Lawrenceville, Ga; two grandchildren, Jennifer Javersak Bell and her husband Tim of Charlotte,NC., and Matthew Javersak of Duluth, Ga.; and two sisters, Rose Lalich of Weirton and Marie Cunningham of East Liverpool, OH.
Friends will be received Sunday 1-3 PM and 7-9 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton. A Pomen service will be held 7 PM Sunday evening. Funeral services will be celebrated Monday, 10:00AM, in the funeral home.
Interment will follow at the Serbian Cemetery, Weirton.
