I am so sorry to hear of Gerry’s passing. She and I used to run around together many years ago when we were both hairdressers, then later as members of the adult sodality. She will be in my prayers. Rest well my friend.

I have a vast array of memories of Gerry, but one stands out from, I believe, the fall of 1978. My sister, Mary Kay was studying in the WVNCC nursing program and a language course was being offered that she could take as an elective: Beginners Polish. The class met in the evenings in the Main Building of the former Weir Junior High downtown. The language instructors were Beatrice Figlioli and Jeanie Wojcik. I got permission from my parents to attend with my sister. Our classmates were Barbara Fidorczyk and Gerry Fijewski! We all had so much fun learning from the first grade Polih Primer that Beatrice had kept from her studies ar SHM Grade School in North Weirton. Gerry wanted to know the Polish word for hairdresser. Jeanie said, “fryzjerka.” Barbara said, “Well, of course, you need your hair done? Go to the “frizzy hair cutter!” We laughed and laughed. From that time forward, I affectionately called Gerry, “fryzjerka.” I can see her dancing a Polka in heaven to God’s glory! Her positivity lives in my heart and I thank God for her presence in my life.
