Gladys Kuhns

Gladys S. Kuhns, 83, of Weirton, died Sunday, November 13, 2005 at the Weirton Medical Center. She was born January 20, 1922 in McKeesport, PA, a daughter of the late James Douglas Smith and Gladys S. (Grimes) Smith. Preceding her in death beside her parents was her husband Robert E. Kuhns, who she married July 27, 1941. She was a beloved homemaker for 63 years who loved to bake and sew. While raising her family she was an active sponsor for Boy and Girl Scouts of America troops 29 and 39, Masonic youth groups, and school sports boosters clubs. Gladys was graduated from Weir High School and worked for the former C and P Telephone Co. She was a member of the Cove Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 147, Arema Social Club, Pleasant Valley Country Club, Women’s Golf Association and the Lion’s Club Square Dancers. She is survived by her son, Ronald James Kuhns and wife Claire of Fort Lauderdale Florida; one daughter, Roberta Lee Simmons of Weirton; one sister, Dorothy Jones of Weirton; and three grandchildren, Eric D. Simmons, Scott L. Kuhns, and Johnna L. Kuhns. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where Eastern Star services will be held 7:00 PM Wednesday evening.
