Harry J. Mack of Weirton died peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville.
He was eighty-three years old.
He was born in New Cumberland, WV. on September 16, 1940, one of ten children to James Gordon and Jane Whitaker Mack.
Harry attended New Cumberland Schools, was a faithful member of the Weirton First Baptist Church, and was retired from the former Weirton Steel as a continuous caster with over 39 years of service.
Harry always had an affinity for travel, he packed up his family in their 1972 Ford LTD which was hauling their Air Stream motor home and for thirteen weeks he was off to see the United States. His son Timothy added they visited Mount Rushmore on their way to the Grand Canyon, taking in several sites along their way. In addition, Harry’s adventures did not stop there, He and Monnie had countless destinations throughout their time together, encompassing Hawaii, Alaska, many winters in Myrtle Beach often stopping in Gatlinburg on their return trip and managing to schedule several cruises to many Caribbean Ports.
Harry will be well remembered for the time he dedicated to the youth of the area, especially the Weirton Baseball Association. Holding the office of its third vice president, Harry’s love for the establishment of the league only was reinforced because of his help with the construction of the WBA Fields at Kings Creek and of course coaching his son’s team, the Angels.
In his spare time, Harry enjoyed exercising at Millsop Community Center and the outdoors, hunting and fishing at the Colliers Sportsman’s Club. Extending that enjoyment, he once flew to Canada with his friends on a fishing trip, most of whom decided to eat what they caught, none of whom were successful at their task, Harry decided to take what he caught home before the trip was over, Harry was providing his friends with their return meals.
Harry will be sadly missed by his family, giving them opportunities, memories, and experiences they will always treasure, he is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Monnie Beatty.
In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife Monnie whom he married on June 3, 1960, and who sadly passed on July 21, 2020, daughter Tina Mack, brothers Bill, Tom, Fred, Donnie, and Ronnie Mack, and sisters Libby Jack, Alice Call, Shirley Hitchens, Bertha Grim.
Left to cherish his memory with love and admiration are his sons Thomas Joseph ( Shirlee) Mack of London, OH., Timothy (Kim) Mack of Weirton, grandchildren Natalie ( Dustin) Koziara and Thomas Anthony Mack, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry’s request for cremation will be honored.
No services are planned.
He will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
Memorial contributions may be made in Harry’s honor to Valley Hospice, Mary Jane Brooks Care Center North, 10686 State Rte. 50,
