helen paolo
Helen Paolo, a lifelong resident of Weirton, died Friday, January 1, 2021. She was 90 years old. Helen was born in Weirton, WV on October 9, 1930 to Theodore and Dorothy Gvozdich Dragisich. When Helen was a young girl, her mother passed away and her father then married Mildred Petrovich Dragisich. Helen married Joseph A. Paolo, Sr. Joe was a supervisor in the central oil house of Weirton Steel, and Helen took care of the home. During their 57 years of marriage, Joe and Helen were blessed with two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Helen cherished the times when she could be around her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking and loved sharing the traditions of Serbian Christmas and Easter with her family. Traveling to Seattle and New York to visit relatives and friends brought enjoyment to Helen’s life. As she got older, weekly trips with her son, Joey to ‘Wal Marts’, Krogers, Eat ‘n Park, and Twisters were the highlights of her day. She loved visiting and talking with people. In addition to her father, mother, and stepmother, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter and grandson, Teddi and Justin Licker on December 13, 1988; and her husband, Joseph A. Paolo, Sr. on July 14, 2007. Helen will be remembered with love by her son, Joseph A. Paolo, Jr. and his wife Andrea; grandchildren, Millacent (Robert) Warner and Joel Paolo; great-grandchildren, Leah Louise and Luke Robert Warner; brother, Robert K. Drake; and son-in-law, Donald (Roberta) Licker. Due to the pandemic, private visitation and services will be conducted at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home on Wednesday January 6, 2021. Friends and relatives are invited to attend an outdoor committal service at Saint Paul’s Cemetery 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Social distancing, as well as mask wearing, will be observed. A celebration of Helen’s life will be held later this year.
