helen alongi
Helen T. Alongi, 87, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday February 7, 2010, at the Weirton Medical Center. Born February 25, 1922, Helen was a daughter of the late John and Helen Jackowski Jonczak. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. "Oakie" Alongi on June 9, 2000; her five brothers, John, Walter, William, Benny, and Ted Jonczak. Helen worked in the gift shop of the Weirton Medical Center for 10 years. Most of all she will be remembered as a wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed cooking for her family, and spending time with them especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Joseph and his wife, Lucinda Alongi of Weirton, WV; her two daughters, Patricia and her husband, Ron Komorowski of Follansbee, WV, and Lucille and her husband, Jerry Durante of New Cumberland, WV; her two sisters, Wanda Budney and Kathryn Fijewski both of Weirton, WV; her seven grandchildren, Ron, Ryan, and Craig Komorowski, Serra Alongi, Casey Richards, Ladonna Smith, and Damian Durante; her five great grandchildren, Joseph and Maryssa Durante, Trey, Brennan, and Sean Smith. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday, and 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday, at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, at Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Rev. Fr. Dean Borgmeyer will preside. Entombment will follow, at Saint Paul Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church 229 California Avenue Weirton, WV 26062.
