Irene H. Canala, of Weirton, died peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Serra Manor. She was 97 years old. Irene was born August 22, 1928, in Weirton, a daughter of Steve and Chrise Angelides Klavas.

A very special lady, Irene was a member of the 1946 graduating class of Weir High School. In August of 1986, she retired from the Medical Records Department of Weirton Medical Center. After her retirement, Irene, Louise Brown, and Coralee Collins formed the WMC Retirees Organization, which is still active today.

A pillar of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Irene attended daily Mass. She was a Eucharistic Minister, taking communion every Sunday to Woodland Hills, Serra Manor, and the Weirton Geriatric Center. She also was very active with the Christian Mothers. She volunteered her time for the Lenten Fish Fries, where the church honored her and two very dear friends, the late Flo Hirkala and the late Minnie Pete by calling them the “Haluski Ladies” and “The Trinity”. Irene was also a member of the Three Score Seniors and AARP.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John F. Canala on July 16, 1999; son Robert L. “Bob” Canala on July 10, 2015, and her sisters Angela Titonis and Lillie Vallas.

Irene will be remembered by her son Dr. John S. Canala and his wife Laurie of Mentor, Ohio; grandsons Nicholas Canala and his wife Kasey and Christopher Canala; great grandsons, Jackson and Hudson Canala and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Irene’s wishes, no visitation will be held. Her family will greet friends Monday, December 15, 2025 from 10:30 am until the 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Father Binu Sebastian and Reverend Father Larry Dorsch will officiate. Entombment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
