Irene J. Hrustic, 86, of Weirton a wonderful and loving aunt passed away Friday, August 28, 2020, at the Laurels of Steubenville. Born on April 19, 1934, in Weirton, WV, Irene was one of five children born to Joseph and Mary Marcincak Zuza. Her father died as a result of injuries sustained in the P&W Bus crash in 1951. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph and Richard Zuza and her two sisters, Mary Souchak and Clara Gambos; and her nephew, Ronald Souchak. Irene was a lifelong resident of Weirton, WV, and a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School. In 1959 she married John Hrustic, Jr. John was a plater operator in the mill for 40 years, and Irene worked in the General Offices of Weirton Steel in the Stenographic Department for 7 years. They were both very active with their church, Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Irene volunteered her time in the kitchen and was a member of the Altar Society and Choir. Her husband John died on Thursday, January 23, 1997, in the church, after receiving the Holy Eucharist. Irene enjoyed bowling many years in the ladies bowling league at Steel Valley Lanes. All who knew her knew her love for sports. She like the Pirates, and Steelers, but nothing compared to her love for Notre Dame football and basketball. Irene will always be remembered for her kindness and her warm and friendly smile by her nieces and nephews, Dennis (Linda), Bob (Cheryl) and Mark Mohoroski; Richard (Marilyn), Kevin (Mary Kathryn) and David Zuza; Karen (Rick) Kinney, Marilou Tucker, Sandy (Rudy) Lang, Kathy (Dan) Weithman, and JoAnn Jamison; her sister in law, Louise Zuza; many great-nieces and nephews, including, Matthew, Michael and Daniel Mohoroski; and her church family. Visitation will be Sunday 2-5 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV Parastas services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday Blessing Services will be held 9:30 AM on Monday at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Liturgy at 10:00 AM at the Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Weirton, WV Rev Fr. Vasyl Symyon will officiate. Interment will follow at Saint Paul’s Cemetery.
