James Edward Gilkey, 65, of Weirton, died Saturday, January 26, 2002, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born March 24, 1936, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late James Franklin Gilkey and Marjorie Wiggins Gilkey. He was also preceded in death by his brother, C. Richard Gilkey in 1995. James retired from Weir Tec Division of Weirton Steel Corporation, where he worked as a Special Projects Specialist on can container development. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Weirton Steel 25 Year Club. James is survived by his wife, Sandra Davis Gilkey, whom he married September 21, 1957; two sons, William Edward Gilkey and his wife Nancy of Hopewell Township, PA, and Daniel Patrick Gilkey and his wife Rebecca of Canal Winchester, OH; one daughter, Suzanne Williams and her husband Ric of Tehachapi, CA; a brother, Donald Thomas Gilkey and his wife Regina of Bloomingdale, OH; two sisters, Rosemary Mascolino and her husband William, and Nancy Cook and her husband Harold, all of Wintersville, OH; and four grandchildren, Spencer James, Madison Mackenzie, Hannah Rebecca, and Grant Patrick. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Steubenville, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund, 140 Walnut Street, Weirton, WV 26062. Obit/send condolences to the family at www.grecohertnick.com.
