James Gerard Barrett, 85, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020. James was born on October 31, 1934, in Steubenville, OH, the first of two sons born to Charles and Edith McCarthy Barrett. Jim grew up in Steubenville, Ohio, and moved to Weirton after he was married. He met Joanne Tate when they were both working in the Tin Mill of Weirton Steel. They were married in August of 1960. Jim and Joanne shared 42 years of marriage. An army veteran, Jim worked at Weirton Steel for forty years and Joanne took care of their home and was an aide at Weirton General Hospital and Weirton Medical Center. They were blessed with four children five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Joanne passed away on June 18, 2002. In his free time, Jim enjoyed going to movies and dinner. He also enjoyed listening to old-time classic radio on his satellite radio. A great storyteller, Jim He will always be remembered for his great childhood stories, and his love for Hollywood movies. He is survived by his son Michael (Marie) Barrett; daughters Beth (David) Anderson, Kathleen Barrett, and Lora (Mike) Underwood; brother, William “Bill” (Jeanne) Barrett; grandchildren Amanda Blosco, Jennifer Anderson, Linsey Anderson, Eileen Barrett, and Emma Underwood and six great-grandchildren.
