James Louis Dragonir, 85, of Weirton, WV, a cherished father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Hope Cottage, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 7, 1939, in Tiltonsville, Ohio, he was one of three children born to Nick and Carolyn Bauman Dragonir.
James graduated from Follansbee High School in 1957 and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps from October 1957 to October 1965. Following his military service, he dedicated many years to his career at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, working in the meter repair shop until his retirement.
James found joy in the simple things—spending countless hours tinkering in his garage, and rebuilding cars.
In his retirement years, James moved to Land O’Lakes, Florida, where he loved to compete on the volleyball courts.
A proud independent man, he would help anyone in need. He always obeyed the law and often would say “A rule is a rule.” Most of all he will be remembered as a great father and grandfather who adored his sons and grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George, and a sister, Vera Hanson.
He will be remembered with love by Anita Dragonir, his two sons, Rodney (Dana) and Nick (Brian) Dragonir; his grandchildren, Ryan and Hanna Dragonir and his sister, Patty Doty.
According to his wishes, there will be no formal services.
Cremation will take place at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home.
James’ family would like to thank the staff of Hope Cottage for the exceptional care they gave him during his stay.

† Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 †
Those of us in Land O Lakes who knew him well, loved him. Jim was a true “legend” and will not be forgotten. His view of rules, that they were never to be broken or bent, made him a great part of our security team.
All of us at Caliente are truly sorry for your loss! We miss him and love him!😔
RIP “Jimmy the Dragon”! 💔
