James O. Brecht, 87, of Weirton, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at his home. Born October 17, 1924 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Charles Ernest and Beulah Mae Heison Brecht. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Alwilda Susan Flowers Brecht on December 30, 2001. Mr. Brecht retired after 45 years of service with National Steel and Weirton Steel. Known as a dedicated Marine who loved his family, James served in the 4th Marine Division during World War II and the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War. During his military service, he fought in the battles of Iwo-Jima, Tinian, Saipan and Roi-Namur. He was a member of the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church, WSX 25-Year Club, Four Seasons Club, American Legion Post 10, a Life Member of the VFW 2716, 4th Marine Association and the 1st Marine Association. He was currently serving as President of the WV Mountaineer Chapter of the 4th Marine Association. Mr. Brecht is survived by his wife Shirley Barker Sagun Brecht of Weirton; two sons, David R. Brecht (Terri) of Missouri City, TX, and Brian J. Brecht (Michele) of New Cumberland, WV; two daughters, Barbara May Brown of Ocean City, MD, Pamela L. Brecht of Weirton and step-daughter Anna-Maria Taylor of Steubenville, OH and grandchildren, James A. Babiak, Jacob, Joseph, Jason, and Leslie Brecht, Kimberly Brown, and step-grandchildren Jaye Taylor, Kenna-Maria Taylor and Devon Taylor. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be celebrated 11AM Monday. During visitation, the Tri State Marine Corps will stand in Honor Guard Formation The Reverend William C. Stout will officiate the funeral service. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton where military services will be conducted by the Tri State Marine Corps. Share tributes and memories at www.grecohertnick.com

Was always kinda scared of him growing up because of his sterness but he just wanted to keep me and Pam in line lol. He will be missed. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
