Janet Marie Fulcinti, 85, a lifelong resident of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, at her home in Country Club Estates, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on February 4, 1939, on Avenue H in Weirton, she was the eldest of three children born to John and Viola Ostrowski Bilkowski.
Janet’s early life in Weirton was filled with the warmth of a close-knit community and the joys of a bustling household. Her vibrant and outgoing nature led her to meet James Fulcinti at a dance featuring Bobby Vinton, where he affectionately called her “Little Red Riding Hood.” This charming encounter blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they married on July 28, 1962. Together, they raised a family of four children: three sons and a daughter, who further blessed them with eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A homemaker, Janet found her greatest joy within her family. She relished in reading, and traveling the world, with her husband. Closer to home, she enjoyed baking, where she passed on her culinary passions to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janet’s kitchen was often filled with the sweet aromas of baked goods and the laughter of her grandchildren.
Janet was not only a pillar of her family but also an active member of her community. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, where she also served with the Christian Mothers. Her involvement extended to social clubs including The Red Hats and the Fun Seekers, reflecting her lively and sociable spirit.
Sadly, in addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James, her son, John, and her sister, Margaret Ticich. Her life was a testament to the strength and resilience of a woman who, despite such losses, continued to embrace life with enthusiasm and grace.
Janet’s legacy will live on in the memories she created with those who knew her and in the traditions she instilled in her family. Her vibrant spirit, generous heart, and infectious smile will be sorely missed but forever cherished by her sons, James and Kelly Fulciniti and Joseph Paul and (Melinda Woodland); her daughter, Julie Ann and Brian Colabove; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Kappel (Sam), Kelsey Cole (Matthew), Nicole Colavecchia, James Fulciniti (Katie), Bryce Colabove (Ashley), Blaise Colabove. Brian Colabove and Carter Blue, and her eight great grandchildren, Braxton, Murray, Lyla Cole, Scarlett Cole, Nico Colavecchia, Ezra Cole, Magnolia Cole, Rocco Colavecchia, and Deacon Cole; and her brother, Bernard (Carolyn) Bilkowski.
Visitation will be 3-7 PM on Friday at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 AM on Saturday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church 200 Preston Avenue, Weirton.
Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville.
In honor of Janet’s love for reading, memorial contributions may be made to the Mary H. Weir Library 3442 Main Street Weirton, WV 26062
