janice king

Janice K. King, 87, of Weirton, WV passed away on November 16, 2023, in Fairfax, Virginia, after a courageous battle with an extended illness.

Born on October 29, 1936, in Weirton, WV, Janice was a daughter of Connie Ott Glover Willey and Ferry A. Glover. She graduated from Weir High School in 1954.

During her early years, Janice worked at Weirton’s P&W bus terminal, where she met the love of her life, Charles Clayton “Charlie” King, a bus driver. They married, and together they built a beautiful family.

Sadly, Charles preceded her in death in 2002. In 2009, Janice relocated to Virginia to live with her daughter’s family.

Janice and Charles were the proud parents of three children: Leslie Carole (John) Sullivan of Falls Church, VA; Charles Clayton King, Jr. (Patricia) of Dover, NH; and William Russell King (Donna) of Weirton. Cherished memories live on through her grandchildren, William Ryan King of Weirton, and John Carroll “Jack” Sullivan of Fairfax, VA.
In addition to her husband, Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Brooks Glover, and her sister, Mitzi Bickerstaff.

In her younger years, Janice participated in bowling and card clubs and dedicated her time to the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). During the early 1970s, she worked as an assistant in the office of a podiatrist. Her professional journey continued at Weirton Medical Center, where she served for nearly 20 years before retiring in 1995. After retirement, Janice found joy in the company of the Fun Seekers in Weirton.

Janice’s spiritual life was also essential to her, and she was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Weirton. In later years, she became a member of the Weirton First Church of the Nazarene.

Most of all, Janice will be remembered for her optimistic outlook on life, and her warmth and kindness as she did not have a mean bone in her body. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, November 30 from 10 AM until the time of her funeral service at 12 Noon at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.

Rev. Larry Barkley will preside.

Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My sincere condolences to Carol and all of Janice’s family. Janice and I graduated together and belonged to the same card club for many years. Janice was a wonderful friend and so kind.

  2. Carol, Chuck and Rusty you have my deepest sympathies in the loss of your sweet mother. I remember spending time at your house (mostly playing cards) and your parents seemed to enjoy kids gathering at your home. I recently came across a recipe that your mom gave to mine. Cherish your many memories of her. She was a kind, patient and loving mom. I’m sorry I can’t attend the funeral, but I will be out of town. All of you are in my prayers for comfort and traveling mercies.

  3. Candle Selection 7Janice was a lovely person. We were friend from when we were about 6 years old living in the Edgewood section of Weirton. We remained friend through out the time she lived in Weirton. We went to the same school and church, married Bus Drivers, we were in a card club together and we worked for a foot doctor together. We maintained out friendship through the years. I will always remember her smiling face and her kindness. I will always cherish memories of her and am thankful for her love and friendship.
