Jerome Nestor “Buzzie” Lucas, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 4, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on May 22, 1938, in Weirton, West Virginia, Jerry was the firstborn of four children to the late John Nestor and Mary Margaret Kelley Lucas.
A graduate of Weir High School, Class of 1956, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he met his future bride, Marian Clarke while serving in England. After two years of dating, they were married on May 14, 1960.
Their marriage was blessed with a son, Stephen Lucas; a daughter, Susan Swanson (Scott); four grandchildren—Lorelei Rhodes, Evan Fogle (Jason), Charles Swanson, and Nico Lucas—and three great-grandchildren, Vincent Chiodi, Abraham and Ariya Rhodes.
After moving back to Weirton, Jerry pursued his associates degree from Penn Technical and worked for many years at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, retiring as a foreman in the Slab Yard.
Jerry was a man of many passions. He found joy in music and often filled his front porch with heartfelt songs. An avid fan of “Gunsmoke” and Clint Eastwood films, he enjoyed relaxing in his rec room after a day of tinkering with tools or fixing something around the house. Fondly known as “Mr. Fixit,” he was a gifted handyman who found satisfaction in every repair and project. He loved to play golf, watch baseball, and most of all, he relished spontaneous drives—often with no destination, just the joy of the journey.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marian; his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; his brother, John T. Lucas; his sisters, Janet E. Lucas and Judith Kerrigan (James).
A private family gathering was held at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
Jerry’s family would like to thank the 2nd floor staff of the Weirton Geriatric Center along with the nurses of Valley Hospice for all the love and care they provided for Jerry while he was in their care.
