JoAnn Gazia Mikita
May 22, 1924 ~ December 2, 2020
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of JoAnn Gazia Mikita of Steubenville, Ohio on December 2, 2020, at the age of 96. JoAnn was a first generation Italian-American born to the late Gaetano “Guy” Gazia and Maria “Mary” Frankina Gazia of Weirton, WV.
Although life took her many places, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Kucera of 25 years and loving second husband, Dr. William B Mikita of 21 years; 2 brothers: Joseph “Cheech” Gazia of Weirton, WV and Frank Gazia, who was killed in World War II; 4 sisters: Theresa J. Veltri, Connie Ceraolo, Lena Ann McFadden and Frances Klaric.
JoAnn is survived by her son, David Kucera (Karla) of Bethel, OH and daughter, Paula Hanchin of Weirton, WV; the Mikita Family (William, Judith, Carole, J. Stephen, grandchildren and great – grandchildren); one granddaughter, Courtney Kucera (Brent) of Anderson, SC, and 3 grandsons: Austin Kucera of Lexington, KY, Paul Hanchin Sr (Amanda) of Weirton, WV, and Joshua Hanchin (Deonna) of Weirton, WV; and four grandsons: Paul Hanchin Jr., Deaglan Hanchin, Ja’myre Hanchin and Xzavier Lawrence; and beloved friend and caretaker Alice DeFrank (Robert “Bob”) of Wintersville, OH.
The family expresses gratitude and appreciation to Mrs. Alice DeFrank. Without her love and support, JoAnn would have missed out on daily visits and new experiences in her later years.
Due to coronavirus precautions, a private family service will be held December 10, 2020 at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home before being laid to rest at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum in Weirton, WV.
As an expression of sympathy, the family requests donations be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society, 200 Airpark Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953; online donations can be made through the following link: https://jeffersoncountyhumanesociety.net/donate/ , please be sure to use the Memorial Donation link.
