Mrs. Joetta Sue Johns

Joetta Sue Johns, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on September 27, 2026, at the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born on April 13, 1934, in Weston, WV, she was a daughter of Elmer E. and Letty M. Dye Posey.

Joetta married Harold R. Johns, and together they built a life devoted to family and community. As the true cornerstone of John’s Water Service, she was the brain behind the operation, ensuring that the tri-state area was provided with water for many decades, all while juggling the demands of a thriving family business that operated 365 days a year.

A woman of simplicity and private nature, Joetta found joy in her garden and in boating, where she relished the serenity of nature. Her love of reading, especially fiction, reflected her imagination and desire for adventure. Music filled her home daily, and her eclectic taste brought a soundtrack to her life that resonated with all who visited.

Joetta was a woman of faith, drawing strength and comfort from her beliefs. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world, and she reveled in sharing moments with them that will be remembered fondly by all.

In addition to her parents and husband Harold, Joetta was preceded in death by her son Robert Johns and his wife Carley Johns, and son-in-law Terry O’Brien.

Joetta is survived by her loving daughter, Terri O’Brien of Weirton, and grandchildren Aaron ( Ashley) Johns, Meghan (Michael) Lawson, Molly (Mike) Greathouse, great-grandchildren Parker Johns, Keegan Johns, Luke O’Brien, Lynnex Greathouse, and Lux Greathouse.

Joetta’s request for cremation will be honored.

She will be cremated at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home Crematory, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV 26062.
