John A. Metz

John A. Metz, 84, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in the Trinity Medical Center West.
Born July 23, 1925 in Kingwood, WV, he was a son of the late William A. and Sylvia Rankin Metz. He was also preceded in death by his wife Nora P. Metz on December 9, 2004, brothers George W., Harry R., and Robert L. Metz; sisters, Martha Thompson, and Loretta Farnsworth.
With 37 years of service, John retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a heavy equipment operator in the Coke Plant. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Weirton. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Metz is survived by his sister Betty Henderson of Toronto, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Metz has requested that no visitation be held. A memorial service will be held 1:30PM Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton. Following the committal, a luncheon will be held at the Community Hall at the Follansbee Park, Follansbee, WV. Arrangements are under the direction of Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.
I had known John and Nora Metz for a number of years and they were like family to our family. Both of them are missed by our family members. John Metz was a fine example of a Christian man who demonstrated his brotherly love daily.
