John Alexander Possnack
August 22, 1912 ~ October 30, 2005
John Alexander Possnack, 93 of Weirton, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at his home. He was born August 22, 1912, the son of the late Alex and Martha Possnack. John was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 4 sisters and one grandchild, Natalie Danielle Possnack.
John was a graduate of Follansbee High School. Retiring in 1973 with 40 years of service, John worked as an electrolytic line operator for Weirton Steel. He was a life-long member, and tireless worker, of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church having served as its President and Trustee. He also sang in the church choir. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Golf Club, charter member of the Weirton Steel Male Chorus and the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anne (Savastone) Possnack of Weirton; his three children, David, Daniel and Martha and their spouses; three grandchildren, Jessica, Marjorie and Nicholas; one great granddaughter; 3 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law; several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2 from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Additional visitation will be held Thursday from 10 until the 11AM funeral services at the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church with the Very Reverend Father Theodore Shomsky presiding. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery.

I am greatly sadden hearing about the death of John Possnack. While growing up as part of the Saint Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church family in Weirton, I felt that John Possnack was a Christian man to emulate. While serving as an altar, I will always remember John singing during church verspers and at furneral homes. I am greatly sorrowed to miss his funeral. I extend my deepest sympathy to his widow and family members.
I have very fond memories of Mr. Possnack from the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Will be sadly missed by all that he touch dearly.

Ann and famuly, John and I are in Naperville, Illinois visiting our daughter,son-in-law and two small granddaughters and are ever so saddened to learn abouut John’s passing away. Dear Ann & Family, We were so sorry to learn of John’s passing away & regret that we were unable to pay our respects at the funeral home. I have great memories of John as we sang together in the Weirton Steel Male Chorus, golfing with him..also his dancing the Cossack at the Labor Day Festival of Nations so many years ago.
