john dematteis

John B. DeMatteis of Weirton passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday morning, February 26, at the Weirton Medical Center after a courageous battle with throat cancer. He was seventy-three years old.

Our hearts are broken as we share the sad news of the passing of our beloved, Johnny “D.” Who was a loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and life partner to Annette.

Johnny graduated from Follansbee High School in 1968 and shortly after began his 25-plus year career with Weirton Steel until his retirement from Arcelor Mittal. He was a wonderfully kind and soft-spoken guy who was always willing to help anyone in need.

During retirement he enjoyed golfing very much until he could no longer participate due to some back issues so after that he was very content just spending his time rooting on his favorite NFL team the Miami Dolphins of course.

We will miss you more than words can describe rest in eternal peace sweet Johnny.

In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by his son, David DeMatteis.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his life partner, Annette Harford and her children, Denny, and Amy. His sons John Paul and Michael A. DeMatteis of Weirton, granddaughters Meadow DeMatteis and Shania (Chris) Fuscardo and a grandson. Johnny DeMatteis, great-grandchildren Owen and Anna Lee Fuscardo, brother Ray and sisters Fernanda Capaldi and Mary Ann Atwell (William Reilly) a niece and numerous nephews and his best friend, Dennis.
