John Danchisin, Jr., 87, of Weirton, passed away Friday, July 22, 2005 in the Weirton Medical Center. Born May 16, 1918 in Port Homer, Ohio, he was the son of the late John and Mary Mohnacky Danchisin, Sr. John was also preceded in death by his sisters Anna Popovich, Mary Znoy and Julia Palsa. With 43 years of service, John retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as a superintendent of the blast furnaces. He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, V.F.W. 2716 and the WSX 25-Year Club and the WSX Management Club. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Atlantic Ocean, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, North Africa and South Pacific. A former Weir High basketball player, John was also an avid golfer and bowler. John’s survivors include his wife Margo Danchisin of Weirton; daughter Carole Ann Cunningham and her husband Dennis of Parkersburg, WV and grandchildren Ted and Danica Cunningham also of Parkersburg. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-3 and 7-9PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton where the Parastas Service will be held at 7:30PM. A Panachida Service will be conducted 9AM Monday in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30AM Monday at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church with Father Edward Lucas presiding. Interment will be in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, where military services will be conducted.
