Mr. John E. "Punk" Cunningham

John Edward “Punk” Cunningham, 72, of Weirton passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022.

John was born on August 8, 1948, at his family’s home in Weirton, WV. He was one of four children born to Thomas and Dorothy Virginia Goodnite Cunningham.

John grew up in Weirton and graduated from Weir High School in the Class of 1967.

John was blessed with two children and two grandsons. Sadly, his infant son William Jeffrey passed away.
He provided for his family by working for the City of Weirton Street Department for 15 years, Weirton Steel for 4 years, and finished his career by working at his favorite job of 32 years at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Grade School and Church in Weirton.

When he was not working, John cherished the times that he was able to hunt and fish down state in New Haven and Dolly Sods. Closer to home he enjoyed drag racing. One of his favorite cars to race was his 1969 Ford Mustang Mach One. He enjoyed this hobby for over fifty years with his two friends Larry and Gomer.

He was a member of the NHRA.

In addition to his parents and his infant son, John was preceded in death by his two brothers, Clarence and Pirl “Bill” Cunningham.
He will be remembered with love by his daughter, Lisa Jo (James) Bogo; his grandchildren, Ashton John and Jaxson James Bogo; his best friend and former wife, Sherry Watson Cunningham; his two brothers, Thomas Cunningham and Ray (Patty) Cunningham.

Visitation will be Friday 1-3 and 5-7 PM at the Greco- Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV, where services will be held at 7 PM.

Rev. Larry Barkley will preside.
