John Edward Mankowski
February 5, 1914 ~ January 28, 2008
John Edward Mankowski, 93, of Weirton, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Acuity Specialty Hospital in Steubenville, Ohio. Born February 5, 1914 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Leokadia Marczewski Mankowski. John was also preceded in death by his wife Olga Margaret Drozd Mankowski on January 8, 2003, son-in-law Patrick Griffin and brother Edward Mankowski.
John is survived by his daughter Joyce Griffin, granddaughter Amy Hatfield and her husband David, great-grandson Alex and sister Sophie Baranowski all of Weirton.
With 35 years of service, John retired from Weirton Steel where he worked as an electrician, was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus 3734 and American Legion Post 10. John served his country in the US Army during World War II.
Friends will be received Wednesday 1-3 and 6-8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10AM Thursday at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Father Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad.
