John Michael Glover Jr. was born on April 27, 1940 to John Michael Glover Sr. and Anna (Kamarec) Glover. He joined his brother Alexander and together they made their home and were raised in Weirton, West Virginia.
As a child John and Alexander enjoyed being outside playing on the vast rolling hill acreage surrounding their home. John learned to garden and can the harvest from his mother. These skills he carried into adulthood where his own garden produced food for his family each summer and canned goods throughout the year. John also tended to the family farm animals, his favorite being the 2 horses. He reminisced years later with his own children about his sadness when they were sold.
John and his family had a devote faith and attended services regularly at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Parish.
John loved sports and his passion was football. He played all four of his school years as right tackle for the Weir High Red Riders. in 1959, his Senior year, he helped his team win the State Championship. He aspired to play college ball but an ACL injury interfered. Instead he attended WVU graduating in 1963 and then using his love of sports, applied and was accepted to The DT Watson Physical Therapy School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
John married his high school sweetheart, Michael (Yurko) in August of 1964 in Weirton, West Virginia and they made their way north to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he secured a Physical Therapy position at Outer Drive Hospital and she a mathematics TA position at The University of Michigan.
John and Michael moved to Grosse Ile in 1967 when John became Head of the Physical Therapy Department at Seaway Hospital, a position he held until
his retirement. They lived on Grosse Ile raising 5 children plus numerous animals including dogs, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and birds. John being a creature of habit, remained in this island home until his death.
John is survived by his wife Michael of 60 years, his 5 children: Jeff (Annette), Eann, Steven (Jennifer), Jill (Aaron), Gregory (Lisa), 9 granddaughters (Ashley, Jenna, Sara, Madison, Charlotte, Anna, Kate, Tessa and Gabi) and 3 Grandsons (Ryan, Kyle, Connor), Brother and Sister in laws as well as many nieces and nephews and great nephews and niece. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Anna, brother Alexander as well as a son in law, Russ.
A burial will take place at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery in Weirton, West Virginia 10 AM on Friday .
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church of Weirton, West Virginia or St. James Episcopal Church of Grosse Ile, Michigan.
